On Day of the Girl Child, Save the Children Denmark and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark launched what seems like an entertaining Facebook-video that highlights bizarre wedding traditions from around the world, ending with the worst of them all: child brides.
The film is a link in creating awareness about the world’s first summit with the singular aim of ending child marriages.

The ad features nine-year-old Gerald whose home was destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines in 2013. Gerald, the eighth of eleven siblings, encouraged his family to evacuate their home in the small village of Tacloban and seek refuge in a nearby school, where they sheltered as the typhoon destroyed the area around them. Gerald’s family’s fishing boat – their means of earning income at the time – was lost in the disaster yet despite this Gerald still courageously continues to help his family and local community by whatever small means possible.
